Computer Repair

When the idea came about, we were excited to go into our first real business adventure. We would be the bosses and call the shots. It's abeautiful thing, in concept. Some people can handle things that way, some can't. We could definately handle it. While some people need to be told what to do to keep active and on track, we wanted the freedom to do the scheduling of work for a change. It worked out great...for awhile.

Next, there was the 'I completely forgot about supplies' part of the business. There was a lot of behind the scenes materials we had never thought of, and those cost money up front. You have all the bookeeping items, a minimum of common spare parts, and software that's needed to run a basic repair business. Well, we didn't have much to start, so we had to scramble when things were needed so the customer didn't know we weren't fully prepared.

Last, the drive for the business didn't stay strong and we basically gave up on it. While making money from computer repair may be a great thing, and fairly constant, a lot of customers would want extra attention to their machines at no cost and that was getting old real fast. Basically, we burnt out. We were having to work a lot more than we had originally thought for the same amount of pay and it jsut wasn't lucrative enough for us. So, in the end, we gave up the business but we can still work on things when asked to. It doesn't happen a lot, but once ina great while someone has a problem somewhere and knows we had worked on computers.

So, there you have it in a nutshell. Being your own boss is a major advantage to running your own business. Just remember, a sole proprietership type of business also means that you will need to wear many different hats; bookeeper, salesman, inventory control, and the list goes on. Make sure you have a little capital to start and run a business as well. And lastly, make sure that whatever you are doing for your business, you keep the drive alive!
